Administration
Statutory guidance for settings states that medicines must not usually be administered unless they have been prescribed for a child by a doctor, dentist, nurse or pharmacist and that medicines containing aspirin should only be given if prescribed by a doctor. Ideally all medicines should be given to the child by the child’s parents.
Bee Active staff members should only administer medicines if absolutely necessary and they are comfortable and confident to do so. Under no circumstances should any Bee Active team member administer any medication to a child unless a Medication Consent Form has been completed by the child’s parent.
Before administering any medication please check carefully the information that has been provided by the child’s parent through the Medication Consent Form. A separate Medication Consent Form will need to be completed for each individual medicine prescription and for each period of consent/prescription. If a Medication Consent has lapsed, a new form will need to be completed.
If you need to speak to the parent for further information, clarification or simply to get some reassurance about the medication administration proccess it is always best practice to contact them in advance to talk it through.
For the avoidance of any doubt Venue Coordinators should speak to the person who is dropping the child off at registration to verbally confirm the requirements for administering medication, on a daily basis.
Each time medication has been administered, this form should be completed for our records. Upon submission, an automated email will be sent to inform both the child’s parent and the person completing this form.
